Invitation cards have always been part of the kiddie party tradition. However, we must remember that it is only an accessory that mustn't take too much of our effort and budget. So instead of spending for them, it is more practical and economical to just make them yourself or resort to other, better alternatives.

Accessorizing a party is usually the fun part of the planning process because it lets you be creative and imaginative. You can make invitations traditionally and get your child involved too - go get your scissors, glue, coloring materials, colored paper, and other craft materials. Decide on a theme or if you already have a theme, design the invitation around it.

This is for parents that have the time to make each invitation by hand, or if you will be inviting only a few guests.  Most of us don't really have the time (or maybe the talent or patience) to make handcrafted invitations. That's why we're resorting to technology and the Internet to do the dirty but cheap work for us (and mass produce these invitations).

Design invitations using image software programs

This is a neat trick if you know how to use graphic programs such as Adobe Photoshop. It's a good way to personalize the invitation, and you're totally in control with the design and content. And so you won't have to spend much on the printing, have it "developed" instead in a photo processing store. Most photo print prices range from P6.00 to P10.00 depending on the size. Invitations regularly do not need to be bigger than 4 x 6 inches, so you could opt to have them printed in 3R or 4R sizes.

If you think you won't be able to deliver these invitations on time, then why not just send the image file by e-mail instead? This saves paper, is absolutely free, and you minimize the risk of having your invitations thrown away or forgotten about before or after the party.  Almost everybody has an e-mail address anyway. Just make sure to text your guests about the invitation you sent them, just in case they don't regularly check their e-mails.

Send invitations from E-card websites

Since we're on the topic of e-mailing invitations, there are tons of websites that offer to create and send your own personalized invitation to your guests' e-mail addresses. Of course, there are limits on the invitations being personalized. By "create" I mean you can select from available designs, and by "personalized" I mean you can add the details to your party and maybe a picture or two. Most of them have great design variety and lets you receive RSVP from guests. Some also allow you to customize the designs by uploading a background image, main image and side images. Here are a couple of websites that you can visit:

  • Evite.com
  • Sendomatic.com
  • Mypunchbowl.com
  • Purpletrail.com
  • Bluemountain.com

Download and print invitation templates

If you're still into the old-fashioned way of printing and sending invitations, you can also download templates from the Internet! Just Google for "kids party invitations templates" and you'll be surprised at the results. You can also go to Microsoft Online and download party invitation templates. If you are throwing a cartoon themed party, you might also want to consider NickJr.com; they have lots of nice printables, recipes and other party resources that you can use.

Hire a professional service

You can always search for invitation suppliers if you don't have the time to design or print invitations. Customized invitations nowadays are really cheap; some go as low as P12.00 per piece for a 4x6-inch invite. The advantage of hiring a professional is that you can still control the design and have the invitation really personalized. You just have to find the right invitation designer so that the taste level of the invitation will match yours.

But remember, don't take too much time designing the invitations; the goal is to have them sent out as early as possible! Whatever method you choose, make sure your guests receive the invitations promptly so they can reserve the date for your party.
