We cannot deny that we are so immersed in Western/American culture, and because of this, our kids are growing up the same way. We speak to them in English and we encourage them to watch American cartoons and read English story books. On the other hand, children learn about Filipino culture in the formal venue - school. Does this guarantee they'll learn about local culture? Probably not. Because they will associate it with school and not with their casual activities, our kids may associate Filipino literature with rules and studying, and not as something that they can enjoy during their past time.
Why don't you let your kids try something different for their birthday - a Filipino-themed party - so that they'll get to enjoy Filipino history, folk tales, and culture. Sure, your kids might protest at first, but if you orient them properly, then they'll begin to see how fun it'll be. If you really think your kids would protest, then you can try doing this for younger kids that aren't even old enough to know what's going on or think that what's happening is baduy (ages 1-5).
Throwing a Filipino-themed birthday is simple. With or without a budget, you can execute this party, as long as you're creative enough to make the party really festive and not look like a Linggo ng Wika celebration.

If the thought of organizing your kids' birthdays stresses you, then get ready to be inspired. Party planning, as we'd like to emphasize in this site, need not be stressful; in fact, it should be an enjoyable experience, one that leaves you with a sense of accomplishment once the party is over and has been a great success. And we're lucky actually that the Internet has provided us easier ways to find and contact suppliers that we can get for our kids' parties.
The Kiddie Party Library is just one of the ways online that can make your planning easier and quicker. Multiply.com is another way. With the hundreds of online shops available in Multiply.com, one mommy was able to organize her daughter's third birthday party, all without leaving the comfort of her home! Here's Leslie's story.

My daughter loves cats, so it gave me an idea for a "kitty" party as a theme. Cats are such adorable creatures, many children love them, and they've been so popular in cartoons (although a lot of times, they're the villain!) The kids will surely have a blast at a cat-themed party; and it's different as it's kind of like a spin-off from the common jungle/animal parties.

There are a lot of party planning services out there, but older generations would probably reject them and tell you to plan the party instead, that you don't need them. This may be true if you're just having a small family get-together/dinner or treating your child's schoolmates during recess time. But in most cases, hiring a party organizer may be well worth it. Here are some tips in knowing whether or not hiring a planner is right for you.

Nowadays, ideal na talaga na mag-plan at most 6 months before your target date... It may sound over acting sa iba pero believe me, after the event, you'll say "whew! buti na lang i planned early."
